Build Your Own AI Receptionist

A hands-on workshop built on an independently certified educational simulator. You will run a fictional receptionist for a made-up business — Northstar Home Services — entirely on your own computer, and learn to test what it claims to do.

   Explain the receptionist's scope — what it may answer, what it must never invent, and why "request received" is not a booking.

   Run a local-only dashboard — start the simulator on 127.0.0.1 and understand why local-only is a safety feature.

   Collect a fictional lead with permission — affirmative consent before intake, bounded fields, fictional example data.

   Practice the conversation — scripted English/Spanish practice with text-first fallback when speech is unavailable.

   Understand signed mock voice events — signatures, timestamps, replay protection, and duplicate-event handling.

   Inspect records and privacy controls — metadata-only practice history, bounded retention, and what is never stored.

   Study optional AI without spending money — AI mode off by default; how allowlists and fail-closed design work.

   Study telephony without connecting a number — how production telephony signatures and consent revocation would work, studied safely offline.

   Verify and explain the evidence — run the test suites, read the results, and state precisely what they prove.

    Inspect browser and accessibility evidence — Chromium, Firefox, WebKit and automated accessibility checks, and their limits.

    Bilingual voice race conditions — language switching mid-request, and why typed input always wins.

    Cancel obsolete browser requests — Stop buttons, AbortController, and sequence guards against stale answers.

    Privacy and confirmed deletion — authenticated deletion across every store, verified empty, with confirmation.

What you need

• A computer that can run Node.js 22 or 24 (free).
• A modern browser: Chrome/Chromium, Firefox, or Safari.
• No phone number, no paid accounts, no API keys. Nothing in this course activates a provider.
